Adventure #6 - Newlands Forest
A fairytale.....
Newlands Forest feels like just that. Found on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain this conservancy area boasts various species of birds, trees, small creatures, and moss and mushrooms.
As we walk through I can't help but feel like fairies, gnomes, and unicorns could call this home. A giddy feeling envelops you as you take in the scenery, awakening your inner explorer.
With numerous trails of different levels of difficulty, this beautiful landscape caters to hikers, people walking their pups, cyclists, and joggers.
The higher up you go the better your chances of getting a gorgeous panoramic view over some of Cape Town's suburbs. You will also come across a few streams and white rocky areas that look unreal.
There is also a picnic and braai area for a fun day out with your family.
In my experience, I would say pack sunscreen, and a hat and make sure to wear a jersey as it does get chilly in some of the densely wooded areas and even though there are streams your pups can drink from I would advise taking some drinking water for them as there can be long stretches without water.
On the easy and intermediate trails a sneaker with good grip would work but it's best to get proper hiking shoes if you want to get over all the rocks without putting strain on your joints, some of these trails can take up to 3 hours or more so bring snacks and have a picnic to rest those legs.
